Sony Professional Previews Next Generation Multi-Format Transcoder and Ingest Platform (7/12/2009)

At today’s UK POI event in London, Sony Professional previewed a next generation solution for the fast transference of high-quality content via a multi-format Transcoder and Ingest platform. Based on cell-processor technology, the platform will meet the needs of broadcasters and post-production houses as it simultaneously ingests content from up to four HD VTSs in parallel and stores files in today’s popular formats, including MXF, DPX, J2k and Avid.

The multi-format Transcoder and Ingest platform can be configured in a variety of file-based methods, both source and target material, and can process a range of file formats with resolutions up to 4k using advanced render queuing management, metadata exchange and automated quality control (QC) techniques. Furthermore the innovative platform can intelligently manage its allocation of resources between real-time (ingest) and non real-time (transcoding) activities.

Current professional technology is not able to handle the speed and quality of some high-format content whilst simultaneously transferring, storing and rendering. The next generation multi-format Transcoder and Ingest platform is harnessing the raw power of cell processors and has been developed by Sony Professional to revolutionise the broadcast and post-production process.
