Sony Professional reveals new version of HDXchange content management solution (17/11/2009)

HDXchange V5 provides users with a complete end-to-end content delivery solution that integrates with a wider range of file formats, simplifying the way media assets are accessed and stored

Sony Professional today announced the latest version of its HDXchange content management solution, enabling users to organise and edit media assets in a more flexible and simplified collaborative environment. HDXchange V5 makes it quicker and easier to manage ingested content with powerful new features such as improved support for all SD and XDCAM formats, a hierarchical bin structure and non-video asset storage.

“Media asset management is a key issue for the whole of the broadcast industry from independent producers through to major broadcasters. HDXchange V5 provides users with a complete end-to-end content delivery solution that integrates with a wider range of file formats, simplifying the way media assets are accessed and stored”, said Nick Smith, senior product marketing manager, Sony Professional.

MXF compatibility

Built on widely recognised open industry standards, HDXchange is now able to store all video material as MXF (Material eXchange Format) files. This allows content to be searched and organised with ease while supporting greater metadata exchange with third party applications.

Support for SD and HD XDCAM formats

HDXchange V5 has been designed and engineered by Sony to provide the widest level of support possible for ingesting and storing XDCAM, XDCAM HD and XDCAM EX material natively. SD users can also store assets at the highest quality possible, with HDXchange V5 capable of handling 30, 40 and 50 megabit MPEG-2 media files.

Storing and archiving non-video assets

HDXchange V5 allows any number of file types to be imported, managed and archived including graphic files, audio files and other documents. This gives users the flexibility to manage all assets within a single application throughout the production and post production processes.

New bin structure

The previous flat bin structure has been improved to a hierarchical model, allowing users to create powerful bin groups with different access rights. This is particularly important for video producers and editors who need to categorise assets effectively and protect sensitive material.

Virtual media files

Innovative new storage features means that the HDXchange V5 is able to generate virtual copies of media assets which can be moved from one location to another without creating physical copies. This will significantly reduce storage requirements for the user and allow media assets to be saved in multiple categories.

Greater visibility of deleted files

Media content marked for deletion can now be viewed in full by users who are authorised to purge the content management system. This ensures that valuable data is not lost and time spent organising files is kept to a minimum.
