News Sony updates HDC Family of high definition studio and production cameras with the "R" Series (24/4/2009) New "R" Series Delivers Enhanced CCDs, Signal Processing and Focusing Capabilities to Flagship Product Line Sony is updating its flagship line of HDC high-definition cameras for studio and live production applications. The new "R" Series continues Sony's developments in CCD technology, combining its second-generation 1080/60P imager with a newly developed DSP LSI designed for enhanced digital signal processing and more comprehensive focusing capabilities. The new models range from high-speed to multi-format cameras, including the HDC-1000R, HDC-1400R, HDC-1450R, HDC-1500R, HDC-1550R and the HDC-3300R. Additionally, option boards for the HDC-1000/1500 and HDC-1000R/1500R models will enable 3G capability to make handling 1080/60P content easier, at rates of 3 Gbps for full-bit digital fiber transmission. "Our HD cameras have built a name for themselves in OB and studio work through their image quality, performance and flexibility," said Rob Willox, director of marketing, Sony Electronics' content creation group. "Now, we're enhancing this flagship line with new features to meet the evolving needs of broadcasters." The new CCD technology is designed to achieve an extended bandwidth output signal, which can result in higher performance especially for higher frequencies on 1080/60P and 1080/180i Super Motion systems. The R Series offers a 2 dB improvement in noise performance with a 56 dB "native" signal-to-noise ratio with 64 dB noise suppression technology. The new Focus Assist Function allows users to obtain focus with a viewfinder aid that will add a new layer of confidence. The R Series of HD cameras is planned to be available this month, with pricing to be announced.
