D&M Installation adds Marantz PMD661 to line-up of solidstate recorders (13/11/2008)

DMi D&M Installation is showcasing its continuing commitment to innovation in the professional broadcast sector with a new addition to the market leading Marantz PMD range of solidstate recorders.

The PMD661 is latest model in the range a highly successful Marantz Professional PMD solidstate recorders. A robust and versatile professional handheld PCM / MP3 recorder the PMD661 supersedes the hugely popular PMD660, offering an improved form factor, a superior feature set, and the use of SD flash media.

Major new design innovations include a significantly smaller footprint than the PMD660, and an improved top facia layout with fewer buttons and more highly developed use of multi-functional operation. Measuring just 165 x 93 x 36 mm (6.5" x 3.7" x 1.4"), it is a third smaller than the PMD660 which, combined with the improved control layout, it ensures comprehensive single handed operation.

The new feature set includes an integrated high quality stereo condenser microphone array for 'point and shoot' operation, and a highly visible 128 x 64 dots matrix OLED (organic LED) display. Improving further on the specifications of the PMD660, the PMD661 features both balanced mic and balanced line XLR inputs, as well as unbalanced line outs on RCA connectors, and a secondary unbalanced line in on 3.5 mm mini jack connector. Also included for the first time at this price point within the Marantz range is a high resolution 24-bit / 96 kHz recording option (PCM). In another first, Marantz Professional has bundled it's Mark Editor software FOC. PMD Mark Editor allows the marker points made on the recoded file to be adjusted post-recording, and a new file created, meaning basic editing can be carried out on a handy PC or laptop, and files posted for immediate distribution.

The PMD661 utilises SD flash media, the most widely available and fastest developing flash memory format. Compatibility with SDHC media means that cards currently up to 32 GB in size can be used. High capacity media storage is matched by over eight hours recording time from four AA Alkaline / Ni-MH batteries. Drag and drop file transfer is supported via the USB 2.0 port.
