LUCI launches LUCI AV for PDA-based mobile content production (7/10/2008)

LUCI Ltd. releases the audio and video delivery solution, LUCI AV, at the International Broadcast Convention (IBC) 2008 in Amsterdam. The PDA-based application will be demonstrated on the recently released Samsung Omnia - one of the first "superphones".

LUCI AV enables reporters to shoot video and record audio in studio quality on their mobile device, anytime, anywhere. Using the intuitive split screen interface, the video and audio from a recorded clip can be simultaneously and non-destructively edited, and the clip stored in a cliplist. Lists containing both edited or non-edited clips can then be uploaded to websites via FTP, or emailed to TV studios.

Although the concept of media and content delivery solutions for Internet, broadband, and mobile applications is no longer a novelty, the ability to receive studio-quality video and audio content from a mobile device, via the mobile network, is a major new development. With no modifications necessary to either a studio's equipment or technical procedures, it means that news can be delivered fast and efficiently to any TV station - even from some of the world's more remote regions.

In line with LUCI Ltd's cross-media strategy, the application is also suitable for use on radio, and with websites and blogs. LUCI AV represents another breakthrough in mobile content production.

LUCI Ltd. will also demonstrate LUCI LIVE applications that enable the streaming of live, studio-quality content to radio stations. Radio contributors such as reporters, politicians and other influential guests, sports and media commentators, hobbyists and even listeners can go live on radio, free and in studio quality, by simply using their PDA or PC with an internet connection. The audio quality makes it seem as if they are at the radio station itself.

Program access is granted, via a special button on the station's public internet site, to a live stream connection i.e. the station's public IP address. This can either be at a time specified by the producer, or on a first come first served basis. The radio station pays a one-off setup price per stream, plus a monthly subscription. Additional streams/subscriptions can be set up as required.
