Thomson Expands Line of HD I/O Boards with New, Next-Generation PCI Express Cards to Enhance and Streamline HD Editing Workflows (23/9/2008)

Thomson (Euronext Paris: 18453; NYSE: TMS), the worldwide leader in video solutions, is introducing two new PCI Express (PCIe) boards, one taking advantage of the growth in tapeless acquisition, the other aimed at high quality, high definition (HD) editing. Offering exceptional value and performance, both of these new production tools come bundled with the latest version of Thomson Grass Valley(tm) EDIUS(r) software.

HDSPARK(tm) and HDTHUNDER(tm) are part of the next generation of Thomson's digital editing peripherals family-which includes the HDSTORM(tm) HDMI-based I/O card, also seeing its debut at IBC-that streamline HD editing workflows and provide constant full-resolution, full quality output from the EDIUS timeline. The products are aimed at the most demanding video professional, high-end post-production facility and broadcast production operation.

"This new family of HD I/O boards improves the process of ingest, editing and output, offering editors a range of affordable, high quality video editing hardware solutions that have been designed with the digital workflow in mind," said Jeff Rosica, Senior Vice President of Thomson's Broadcast & Professional Solutions within the Systems division. "And the best part is that the full version of our EDIUS non-linear software is already included. Thomson continues to support professionals looking to cost-effectively achieve their goals."

HDSPARK is designed to support the increasing number of video professionals who are using tapeless acquisition and simply need to see their projects output in real-time, using affordable HDMI monitors. Based on the PCI Express form factor, HDSPARK offers constant real-time, full-resolution HDMI-based video preview with separate audio output for high-quality monitoring. Thomson's experience in ADVC technology ensures that the audio and video are perfectly in sync at all times during editing.

HDTHUNDER, like its counterparts HDSPARK and HDSTORM, is a single PCI Express board that features high quality, synchronized video and audio output via HDMI from the EDIUS timeline. HDTHUNDER also provides HD-SDI and SD-SDI signal support in and out, and timecode with sync input, via robust BNC terminals.

Thomson is unique in supporting the entire media chain from high-definition content creation to multi-play services for home consumption. As broadcasters become broadercasters, Thomson is the right technology partner, as it will demonstrate at IBC 2008 in two booth locations - Hall 1, Stand D.11 and Hall 7, Stand F.31.

Pricing & Availability

The cost for the HDSPARK board is $899 (including EDIUS 5 software), while HDTHUNDER is listed at $2,499 (also including EDIUS 5). Both will be available by the end of 2008.
