Fairlight's New CC-1 Engine Couples Platform Openness with Broad Plug-In Compatibility (20/10/2006)

Fairlight offers users expanded creative opportunities with ReWire implementation to provide access to sound design tools and audio bridge to up to 64 simultaneous VST plug-ins.

Following up on the launch this week of its new Crystal Core (CC-1) audio production engine, Fairlight today announced enhanced plug-in support that will provide Fairlight customers with a new 64-channel audio bridge providing high-precision synchronization with any ReWire-enabled sequencer including those from Reason and Rebirth from Propellerhead, Cakewalk's Project 5, Ableton's Live, Tascam Gigastudio, Native Instruments Kontakt and more. The move effectively makes Fairlight the industry's most open and also most integrated audio production environment.

"We've achieved a potent balance by providing our customer base with broad openness to allow sound designers, editors and mix engineers to work as they choose ," noted Lukas Bower, General Manager of Strategic Partnerships, Fairlight. "Crystal Core is a quantum leap forward in system performance alone, but the market has been asking for an alternative that also provides openness and control and Fairlight is pleased to deliver it so comprehensively today at AES."

ReWire allows real time streaming of audio channels from one application to another running on the same PC. As a PC hosted system supporting ReWire, the CC-1's mix engine can be directly fed from any ReWire enabled sequencer which includes many of the industry's most popular applications such as Reason and Rebirth from Propellerhead, Cakewalk's Project 5, Ableton's Live, Tascam Gigastudio, Native Instruments Kontakt, and many more. In addition, ReWire enables high-precision synchronization between the two applications to achieve a completely integrated working environment.

The PC-based architecture of CC-1, whilst delivering a new industry benchmark for performance, it also enables a level of independence and modularity never before available to audio professionals Ñrunning the Universal Audio UAD card in the CC-1 host provides access to some of the industry's best loved plug-in emulation of the classics such as the Fairchild compressor, Neve 1073 EQ, Pultec EQ to name just a few. Similarly, by installing a TC Powercore DSP card CC-1 delivers automatic access to a suite of sound design tools directly into the session simply, easily and effectively. Fairlight CC-1 has a built-in 64 channel audio bridge to VST compliant plug-ins and ReWire connected sound design tools. CC-1 also is equipped to provide embedded support for Synchro Arts VocAlign.
