News Fairlight Launches High Definition Pyxis Nonlinear Video Production Family (11/5/2005) Fairlight today announced it has launched two new versions of its Pyxis Non Linear Video system each offering support for High Definition video in both uncompressed and compressed formats. Incorporating a new Tri Level sync capable PCI coms card and also supporting Black Magic design's HD-Link hardware the new Pyxis HD range is ideally suited to Post applications for both film and television, Dubbing rooms, Screening rooms, Telecine Capture and ADR applications. There are now four products that encompass the Pyxis family. These include a Standard Definition player/recorder, a Standard Definition player/recorder with Genlock and SDI I/Os, an HD/SD network player and an HD/SD player recorder with SDI and Genlock supporting JPEG Compression or 4:2:2 uncompressed video for the highest possible video quality. All versions operate in NTSC or PAL and at any standard frame rate. In addition the new HD versions provide support for 24 and 23.98 for film applications and can reference Tri-Level sync as their master timing reference. LTC can also be generated at any required rate so Pyxis can easily be used as a master in any projection or dubbing room application. The recommended host PC can be configured by the end user meaning that storage requirements and peripherals can be optimized to the job at hand or added at any later stage should the need arise. All of this means that Pyxis configurations can be supplied at a lower cost than any other available component systems. "Pyxis is really grabbing the attention of the market," explained Stuart DeMarais. "It has also defined a new category of affordable, highly intuitive, and feature rich non linear digital video machines that are finding a host of different applications. As a response to market demand, HD capability is an essential requirement for our customers and just as Fairlight pioneered the development digital audio and video, it's fitting that today we provide customers with a practicable route to HD." In addition to these powerful enhancements to the Pyxis product range, Fairlight's other introduction, Pyxis-ADR, expands studio control functionality by providing the ability to spot ADR takes directly into a list that can be used to control and cue ADR studio record devices. Operators can easily enter In and Out time-code positions for the required take and store these within the Pyxis project. Recording is accomplished with a simple one touch operation which includes generation of video streamers cueing and user defined pre-rolls. The ADR process is further enhanced with the ability to add text dialog to the required take and display it in sync with the picture. Pyxis-ADR can also be used with many international languages and also supports Double bite characters as found in Chinese or Japanese text.
