STOP PRESS!! This bumper edition is of course due to our round-up from the NAB 2006 Convention. With only the official registered attendees figure of 105,046 to go by, it is hard to know if attendance was up or not. It was certainly busy in the Apple vs Avid area! As expected, high definition has become a 'given', whatever the flavour, and this year there were plenty of developments in the 2k and 4k space.

The back of the Central hall proved to be worth the walk for several reasons. Firstly, to see a demonstration of the Ultra High-Definition TV System developed by NHK Science & Technical Research Laboratories in Japan. Not only did this 4320 scanning line system offer stunning picture quality with 7680x4320 pixels, but also the world's first 22.2 multichannel sound system. Secondly, to watch a live high definition production by the NAB-HD team.

If you didn't get to NAB 2006, or even if you did, there are two events coming up which promise a look at the latest developments. The SMPTE NY Editing Showcase will take place in NYC on 6 June 2006 and attendance is free if you register at www.smpteny.org.
